A Few Facts About North Carolina Baptist Men Volunteers Helping Storm Victims
 

Hurricanes Katrina, Ophelia, Rita and Wilma - Disaster Relief Update – As of April 17, 2007

 
2005-2007 Hurricane Summary- Altogether we have had more than 173,702 volunteer days of volunteer service, provided over 1,016,316 meals, completed 4,124 recovery jobs, provided over 135,092 showers, washed more than 7,479 laundry loads and provided childcare for 560 children. These numbers include responses to Hurricanes Katrina, Ophelia, Rita and Wilma.
 
Gulfport, MS- Hurricane Katrina- Disaster Relief feeding teams are cooking for our volunteers in Gulfport, Mississippi.  We also have many recovery units, and our generator unit, water taker unit, and shower units working in Gulfport, Mississippi. As of today, a total of more than 522,653 meals have been served from our NC Baptist feeding unit/kitchen in Gulfport. We have also sent more than 70 tractor trailer loads of bottled water and other supplies.  As of today, in Gulfport alone, more than 142,096 volunteer days have been provided. We have also provided over 120,532 showers and washed over 7,082 laundry loads. We have also completed more than 2,300 recovery jobs and we have served 480 children in emergency childcare. NC Baptist Men has set a goal of rebuilding 70 0 homes in the Gulfport, Mississippi area over the next two years. We have secured a location where we can house, feed and coordinate job assignments for up to 400 volunteers at a time. Eddie and Martha Williams are our long term coordinators for this project. They are being assisted by Gary and Edith Holland, Elmer and Barbara Farlow,  and Curtis and Joyce Thrift. So far we have finished over 500 homes and have 200 homes that we are working on with others on our waiting list.
